Staying Strong as Senoia Settles Into the Season
By the time this issue lands, Senoia PorchFest will already be a memory—lawn chairs folded, front-porch stages quiet again, and a lot of us still feeling those long blocks of walking in our legs. That’s fall around here. It doesn’t arrive with a single date. It settles in after a big weekend, then keeps going: Saturday mornings at the Farmers’ Market, Friday nights downtown, and a calendar that fills faster than the leaves change.
There’s plenty still ahead. Alive After Five returns October 16 with an Oktoberfest theme. The 21st Annual Senoia Car Show takes over historic downtown September 26—hundreds of classics, thousands of neighbors, and a full day on your feet. October 11 brings Italian Heritage Day, and later in the month Halloween weekends take over Main Street. These aren’t sit-and-watch events. They’re walk-all-afternoon, standand-talk, carry-the-cooler kind of days.
That’s why fall fitness works best when it stays simple. Cooler air is a gift for strength work and longer walks. The goal isn’t a brand-new identity. It’s protecting what you already built: three solid sessions a week, a little more load or one extra rep when it feels earned, protein and produce from the market, and enough sleep that you actually want to show up downtown. Consistency beats intensity this time of year. The people who feel best at the Car Show and Alive After Five are rarely the ones who started from scratch in September. They’re the ones who didn’t stop after PorchFest.
Around here, that kind of steady work is happening at Image Fitness in Brooks. Trainers Adam, Elizabeth, and Jake are helping members keep their summer—and early-fall—progress instead of sliding into “I’ll start again after the holidays.” The PowerMill Climber is still a favorite for cardio that doesn’t beat up the joints, and 24-hour access fits the school-year scramble—early before the kids wake up, or late after a Friday night on Main Street. The point isn’t a hard sell. It’s having a place close to home where the plan is personal and the atmosphere still feels like neighbors, not a franchise.
When more of us stay strong through fall, the whole town feels it. You last longer on the Car Show loop. You carry market bags without thinking about it. You have energy left for the people standing next to you downtown. Fitness here isn’t separate from community life. It’s what lets you keep showing up for it.
So as the season settles in, pick one habit and protect it. Walk the market. Climb a little. Strength-train like it matters for October, not just January. Senoia’s fall calendar is already in motion. Meet it ready.
Four Moves to Carry You Through the Season (3 rounds, 2–3 times a week. Slow, controlled reps.)
• PowerMill or Hill Walk Intervals: 40 seconds easy / 20 seconds pick-up. Builds the stamina for Car Show crowds and Alive After Five without pounding your knees.
• Goblet Squats: Dumbbell or kettlebell at the chest, sit back, stand tall. 10–12 reps. Strength for hills, long downtown days, and a full afternoon on your feet.
• Row or Band Pull-Aparts: 12–15 reps. Opens the chest after desk days and school pickup, and keeps posture strong when you’re standing through live music.
• Farmer’s Carry: Heavy weights at your sides, walk 30–40 yards. Reallife strength for market totes, coolers, and kids who suddenly want to be carried.
Ask Adam, Elizabeth, or Jake to check your form—small tweaks now keep you moving through Halloween and into the holidays. (About 610 words with sidebar. Same ¾- to full-page shape as May.
