Senoia United Methodist Church has been part of this community longer than almost anything else standing in it. Founded in 1861 by Rev. Francis Baggarly as the Methodist Episcopal Church South, the congregation first gathered in the upstairs of the Rock House — the very first building erected in Senoia. Through generations of growth, expansion, and change, the church found its permanent home on Bridge Street, where its Queen Anne architecture has become one of the most recognizable landmarks in town.
What's held constant through all of it is the welcome. SUMC is a congregation that anticipates guests — longtime Senoia families who have called this church home their entire lives sit alongside newcomers who just moved to town and are still figuring out where they belong. The traditional organ music, the beautiful stained glass windows, the unhurried small-town pace of a Sunday morning — people come curious and stay because they find something they didn't know they were looking for. Family. Purpose. A place to serve.
That service extends well beyond the sanctuary. The church's Little Free Pantry and partnership with I-58 Mission keep neighbors fed. Small groups, Bible studies, and fellowship events give people meaningful ways to connect. And as a United Methodist congregation, SUMC is linked to a worldwide network bound by a shared commitment to love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously.
John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, believed the world was his parish. Senoia UMC believes the same.
When Jesus was asked about his ministry, he simply said — come and see. The same invitation stands. Worship is every Sunday at 11:00 am.
